The 1200s continued the development from 100.  The 1400s and 1500s had
those botched up door hinges (to widen the clear opening) and the later
cars had a lot of ersatz fittings because of wartime shortages.  I've
heard complaints about the 1200s rebuilt with drum brakes but I never
heard the same animosity from Washington DC.

The 1700s, from a personal view point, may have been the prettiest
standee window cars but their construction before the era of practical
transit air-conditioning was a detriment.  The Boston Picture Window
cars were heading down the right patch but the small standee windows
above the larger lower windows were a detriment -- I would have rather
seen large single windows with blue or green tinting on the top half ...
of course he have already gone that direction.  The time just had not
come in 1952.
