Sad indeed. And dare I say we, as a society, are still so infantile when it comes to
racial matters? Which leads to another question. On the issue of race, where did
Pittsburgh Railways stand on hiring non white motormen, conductors, bus drivers,
mechanics, maintenance personnel, etc.? I can't recall seeing photos of non whites in
such roles until the early PAT years.

I have heard stories about other cities concerning this matter. These transit systems'
management wasn't directly concerned about an employee's race, but some avoided hiring
black motormen/drivers due to potential objection by white passengers.
