If I can remember I'll ask Ed this evening. I have seen ethnic minorities running cars
in Pittsburgh but I have no idea whether it was as far back as the Pittsburgh Railways
era. What I do know is that Pittsburgh had a very small minority population; the number
of Blacks living in the city in the 1960s was probably the fewest of any city of its size
in the United States. Remember that, in the period before "Urban Ruinall," most of the
Blacks lived in a very small patch of land called variously the Hill District or Herron
Hill or Bedford.
