Does anyone know when the Wabash Terminal building was torn down? It was located on what is now called Stanwix St., and today Four Gateway Center is on the site.
Carnegie Library and other sources state that the 9-track trainshed and part of the 11-story building were destoryed by two fires in 1946 - the first on March 6, and the second fire on March 22. The closing of the terminal is recognized as the beginning of the development of Gateway Center.
Four Gateway Center opened in 1960. Although the trainshed was removed in the 1940's, some sources say that the Terminal building wasn't torn down until 1953 or 1955. I always thought that the building was demolished in the late 40's. Can anyone confirm this?
