The Lorant book says that Gateway 4 opened in 1960. I took a photo of it
nearing completion in September, 1959. I took photos of Gateway 1, 2 and 3
in 1954, which was shortly after they opened. KDKA was already located in
the Gateway building closest to the Allegheny River (their original studios
were in the Chamber of Commerce Bldg.).
I have a Gulf Oil map from around 1955 that shows the outlines of the
original three buildings, plus four more buildings (4, 5, 6 and 7) that were
planned. The four proposed buildings also had the cruciform shape, but they
were eventually built in square or rectangular designs.
