And the Smithfield Street Bridge was scraped by
a High-Riding Tug which damamged the structure in the 1950s.
It was Not reported immediately and caused quite a stir
when the report did come thru.
All traffic on the bridge ceased Except For
TrolleyCars which had to crawl across. Remember some
I-Beams temporarily installed at each side in addition to
the structure between roadway and tracks near the north
end of the bridge. Remember the Wimmins (Mom and Aunt)
being quite concerned And Alarmed which didn't help with
us Kids around!
Don't remember how long autos were banned.
