Greetings
There was an exception to this ready fare.
In Dayton, the City Railway as a private trolley bus operator
continued for years until public takeover to have drivers
give change. The secret..owner and protrolley bus manager Bill Owens
armed his drivers with weapons. He sent them all to auxilary police school
and deputized them!
On some bad routes, he had armed mechanics ride shot gun. And
supervisors had a mounted shot gun.
I visited Bill in the early l970;s and saw this first hand.
