Early 1980s after serious accident. I want to say when motor fell off
Market Frankford car around 30th St., splitting car open on subway column,
but memory very hazy on this. I'll check Monday for background.
Inspections done by PAT and SEPTA employees. PennDOT just checks the
inspection records and supplies stickers. Early on I recall Luzerne Depot
doing a lot of inspections near end of quarterly inspection period. We
quizzed the shop foreman over just how many inspections certain employees
could do in one day. At least the records looked more reasonable on
subsequent visits. Afterall, we were the same folks who also provide SEPTA
with state operating assistance.
