Not a typo. Also looking at photo of same
*about* 1958 at Dormont wye.

But they also wanted maximum exposure for newer
cars and used newer cars to attract the discretionary
rider.

Have a photo from Bill Nixon of 100 at Keating!
Car is sitting in a row of other cars in the yard.
Believe the date is latter 1940s (but wonder if the photo
is not mis-labeled - not much of the yard is shown!)
Tens started on the 38-Mt.Lebanon but were
apparently quite quickly replaced with 11s at Tunnel and
the Tens never returned to South Hills!
Tunnel received 12s and 14s and a handful of 15s
when new but the 15s may have been replaced by 16s but
not necessarily when 16s were new. Cars 1620--1629
were at Tunnel in early 1950s while Charleroi and
Washington were still operating according to the late
Pat Healy. Also have a few photos of these 16s from
Russel Schramm in this time period.
During early to latter 1950s Tunnel had
1100s - Not A Few!
1200s - Not A Few!
1400s
1600s
1700s
Have photos of 1619 in service on 94-line --
1613 apparently came from Craft, and have photos of 1646
on 87-line -- All this before the cars were converted
to Interurbans!!!!!!!
Car 1630 started life at Highland, was apparently
transferred to Plummer, and then ended up at Tunnel.
There was probably an extreme amount of car
shifting after WW2 as 1.>--need for Low-Floors diminished;
2.>--Barns closed; 3.>--routes changed / eliminated.
Herron Hill was the first to close in 1951 followed
by Millvale in 1952, the latter probably had more cars.
(Closing of Charleroi and Tylerdale insignificant as far
as car shifts go - where else would Interurbans be sent
than where they already were?!?!) Then Highland Park,
Plummer, and Carrick all closed in 1954 -- tremendous
shift of equipment.
I was surprized that South Hills received ANY
city-17s since they had 25-for interurban service, but
1763--1769 were initially sent to Tunnel and many
stayed well into the latter 1950s but most, if not all,
ended up at Craft! Believe Carrick had 1770--1774 and
these came to Tunnel as well as some in the 30s.
As mentioned below, PTM regularly published
car assignments. A couple of these are in the
dimentia archives in TIFF or JPEG format.
