I'm astonished at the prodigeous amount of work that Justin and his crew accomplish.
On Saturday, the gang heated, placed, and hammered over 250 rivets on 4398's new side ... everything below the windows on the blind side of the car north of the center door. The door side, north end, is still just as frame.
I suspect some of the museum types will tell us that the car was destroyed because we produced something that is not falling apart. There is some of the old car there ... I saw the two channels under the floor. And the roof carlines are still original. It would be hard to state that 4398 is a product of St. Louis Car Company when perhaps less than 100 lbs. of the body is original.
I queried Justin this afternoon about when he thought he could have the new sides and ends done. He suggested sometime in January.
I got the feeling he is really looking forward to starting on West Penn 832 even though he thinks that is more than a year away.
