Mr. White also believes that you should restore trolley cars and then not
run them again. His address to an ARM convention about three decades ago,
in which he espoused this concept, provoked me to write the then-editor of
the ARM newsletter a definite nasty-gram; I don't know if my displeasure was
ever shared with Mr. White.

(Unrelated): I'll be away until the 6th.

The railroad historian White (William?) would say this restoration is
"facadism", by which he meant replacing so much of the original parts that
nothing much original is left. To him I gather than is a bad thing to be
avoided, but really, what else could be done with 4398? If it was some
ancient antiquity that shed some new light on an ancient civilization I
would understand leaving it alone. But its a trolley car. We know how they
were built and have many nearly original examples around. Its meant to run,
and now it will again. keep up the good work, I look forward to 832 as
well.
