Called Working A Foreign Line here. We still have multiples of
those. There are some AM trippers in my division that work the
5-Fulton to downtown and East Bay Terminal (EBT) at which point the
TrolleyCoach changes route signs to 3-Jackson - travel between EBT and
Sutter/Sansome is part of the 5-outbound. But the coach doesn't
make the complete outbound trip on the 3-Jackson -- in fact, it never
even gets to Jackson as it turns outbound from Fillmore to California
and from there it turns to the 1-California Inbound on Steiner to
Sacramento. It only returns to California and Presidio, not the
full outbound length of the 1-Cal, and then returns to the barn.
We also have some AM tripper runs which work inbound on the 5-Fulton or
21-Hayes, then outbound on the 4-Sutter to Presidio and California (not
the full length of the 4-Sutter,) then inbound on the 1-California and
back to Presidio and Cal to return to the barn.

The 41-Union in SF used to be a 24 hour line run from Presidio. In
1988 it became a Rush Hour Only Line -- Stock Brokers Squawked Loud
And Clear about this and some Very Early Trips were added to get these
folks to work downtown. The 41-Union was then split between both
Presidio and Potrero divisions, both Trolley Coach Barns. Presidio
Runs start with 1 and end around 180; Potrero Runs Start at 300 and work
upward -- number gives away the division. Similar is done with
the several diseasal divisions.
I have some rough drafts of our proposed sign-up for next month and I
see that Muni is now using the term BLOCK for TRAIN on the
rotations sheets. Individual Paddles for the BLOCK list the
Number Itself but don't identify it by name. Will have to look at
the Range sheets to see how the Train is identified there.
Having worked the same identical schedule for the past decade I haven't
looked at schedules / tables / ranges / rotation sheets in any
detail! In fact, several times a year I am quite miffed that there
are so many Different Drivers on the coaches that pass me -- then I
realize that a New Sign Up just took effect and drivers changed runs
-- well, most of them did!
You were working Trolley Coaches in Chicago, weren't you John?
Don't know of any TCs working outer Sheridan Drive, though! You
should have told me you were there -- several times I went to Chicago
just to ride the Trolleys -- I was in Waukegan from 1967 to 1977 --
Ken was in Milwaukee but we met in the Burger Christmas of 1976 --
still can't pull up memories of that! Possibility that Ken could
have ridden your TC / MC in Chicago as well! World gets smaller
all the time!
