The reason facts like this are virtually unknown is simply that no one has
looked at the railway company from other than its own eyes. Everyone looks
at the obvious, what's out there for consumption. But you have to study the
operation in its own time if you want to be interpretive, and that includes
reading the newspapers of the era to find out what other people thought of
the company. Fortunately PTM has John Makar, who does just that. And I
find it very interesting to read (and sometimes remember what's in) the
clippings he brings for the library. The company certainly didn't operate
in a vacuum.
I had a lot of fun writing this article...and now someone has noticed that
something "new" was said. I guess I did my job!

I found this very interesting article written by list member Ed Lybarger for
Pittsburgh Engineer. I had never heard of transter privileges being
withdrawn on holidays to increase revenue.

We may fondly remember the rides and cars of our youth, I'm sure the
adults of the trolley era had issues with the operating practices of the
trolley companies on a day to day basis.
