[PRCo] Re: car stop sign available and Maz's homer

I remember it well - I was at Lackland AFB - what a stupid time to join
the Air Force. Every time the Yankees would blow out the Pirates I
would get heckled by the New Yorkers. But then Vernon Law and Elroy
Face would come in. I'm told that the celebration just happened -
people working downtown streamed out into the streets and the crowd in
Oakland made their way downtown also.

I always thought this was one of the first "celebrations" and there were
no riots involved. Just everyone having fun. But then what do I know,
I was in Texas.

One of the Pittsburgh picture books I have has a shot of a gang at the
top of the Cathedral of Learning straining to see something of the game.
And, if you are interested WQED has a video on Oakland that allocates
some time to the replay of the game that is supposed to happen beneath
the wall every year.

Oh yea, to get on topic - I don't know if people rode the streetcar
roofs that day.

It was a night game??

For some reason always had the impression that it was an afternoon game.

???? (dunno anymore)

But the celebration/riot downtown did occur at night. The front page of
the
next days Press or Post Gazette should have some photos.
