It is the German word for day ticket ... Tag (day) and Karte (Karten pl.)
ticket. Because the Germans still decline all nouns and adjectives, it is
much easier to merge all the adjectives or subsidiary nouns into the primary
word ... saves adding all those endings to match gender and case of the
primary noun.
This results in some very long words such as Das
Sechachsendopplegelenkstrassenbahnwagen or six-axle doublely-articulated
streetcar. The practice also makes learning the language difficult because
you just cannot look these words up in a dictionary ... you need enough
experience to know what words they have combined.
