The only time I ever heard the expression 'red dog' was in reference to the 
'dirt' used to level the switch area leading into the original car barn at 
PTM.  Might have come from an old - real old - issue of Trolley Fare.  Or 
might have come from an overheard conversation.

Any truth to this 'rumor'???
