Red dog is a common term here in western PA.  Very hard crusty stuff that
really hurts if you fall from your bicycle as a child.  Lots of it still
abounds.

I played in a group in the late 60's-early 70's called the Yellow Dog Six,
named for a little town outside of Worthington, PA.  Nothing to do with
dissidents, just a community that manufactured bricks.
