The roof mounted blueish-green Advance Light was
intended to make an approaching streetcar visible to
passengers at night. Advance lights were first
installed in 1936 when dash lights were also added to
TTC streetcars.
Along as Toronto had PCC cars you could always spot an
approaching car at night by the advance light. It was
a different greenish colour than traffic lights. That
little light would often be visible before you could
clearly make out the front of the streetcar.
