And we just scanned a photo brought by an attendee at our program yesterday
in Fairmont of 711 on Mt Vernon St in Uniontown running on Brownsville. It
had just busted up an automobile that got in its way. Alas, the date was
not recorded.
An analysis of equipment deliveries from 1908 on can be helpful. We just
acquired a couple years' worth of the company magazine, and an early 1917
entry speaks of how well the patrons on the Brownsville line are taking to
the new 700s running there. This would have occcurred after Cincinnati Car
had delivered 709-714 in 1916. So that says that Main Line needs were being
met with 701-708, plus the 600s, plus whatever 200s were needed for extra
cars. The Main Line required ten cars and three spares, plus the reserves.
200s had opened Brownsville and Masontown, and were in common use on the
branches at this time. The photo of the staged auto accident on Fairchance
uses a 200.
It all depended on the year for car assignments, and they changed more than
you'd think. We have a negative collection of cars in Connellsville from
1939-1943...some samples:
214 stored at barn with McKeesport-Irwin-Trafford sign still attached
710 Dickerson Run 2-23-43
716 stored 2-man 2-21-43
717 just out of shop (made 1-man) 6-24-43
718 stored 2-man 1-31-43
720 stored 2-man 6-11-41
721 Brownsville 8-30-42
722 Dickerson Run 3-8-42
724 Main Line 7-9-42
734 Dickerson Run 11-15-42
831 Fairchance 8-30-42
833 S Cvl 11-16-41
834 Phillips 8-30-42
835 S Cvl Dec 42
836 S Cvl 4-25-43
837 S Cvl 6-11-41
838 Phillips 6-14-43
839 (repainted) Phillips 9-10-42
840 Phillips 2-22-42
841 Phillips 6-11-41
842 Phillips 11-2-41 & 11-15-42
Of course there were a lot of Main Line cars too (709, 720s and 730s). A
lot of the above assignments changed postwar, as we know.

Actually it was pretty much cast in stone until the very end when the
company switched around those cars that ran to replace those that
wore out. Before that, for example, the 730s were always mainline
cars.
The 712 you mentioned as a Latrobe car was earlier on a Brownsville
car. Depends on the year.
