The McKinney Avenue trolley line began operation in the late 1980's , and
nearly all of its rail had been under asphalt since the 1950's. The asphalt
was removed in the mid-1980's and trolleys began using that trackage. I
believe that the only new trackage in 1988 was a short stretch on the
downtown end of the line, and possibly the trackage in the street leading to
the carbarn. Then, in 1999-2000, a section of McKinney Avenue was repaved,
and during the street work, new rail was installed in that section of the
line. The official M-Line website is at: www.dart.org/mline.asp

McKinney Avenue is a neighborhood/shopping/night life section of Dallas, on
the edsge of downtown, and not unlike East Carson St. in Pittsburgh.
McKinney Ave. trolleys didn't just happen - they are the result of a big
idea, a lot of private and public cooperation, and a strong can-do attitude.
