A Transfer // Special // Throat had Times listed in two columns on the
top with hours on the left and half-hours on the right covering a
12-hour span. An irregular box is below this which identifies
PRCo and has general transfer regulations:

"""Issued subject to tariff regulations. Not good on route
notched. Good only on date issued until latest time shown.
Not Transferable."""

The date is stamped below this.

This is followed by two columns listing various Lines // Districts; a
Special // Throat has a third thin column in the center of the District
Listings where Special Or Throat is printed sideways in bold.
Below all this is a tear off tab in black with clear letters (not
unlike a destination sign) which says:::

"""PM"""

If that PM tab is torn off then the time is for ""AM""

Transfers are also marked Inbound Or Outbound and some for ""Outer
Zones.""

A South Hills Transfer from 1959 shows:

First Column::

Mt.Lebanon 38
Shannon 37
Dormont 42
Library 35
Emergency

Second Column:

39 Brookline
40 Mt.Washington
Castle Shannon INcline
36 Drake
Shuttle

South Hills transfers not limited to usage on these lines as my Mother's
Cousin was a Dentist on Brownsville Rd. and it was necessary for us to
take the 42-Dormont IB to SHJ then the 44- or 48-OB and then the 53-OB
and we did this on one transfer each direction!

A Throat for July-24-1964 Just after ({[pat]}) takeover shows these
two columns::

First Column:

Forbes and Fifth
North Side
2nd Avenue
Emergency

Second Column:

South Side
Liberty Penn Butler
West End
Wylie Ave.

////////////////////\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

A Special for the same date as the Throat shows the following:

First Column:

Forbes - 5th - Liberty - Penn
West End
Wylie Bedford
60-96-77/54
Emergency

Second Column:

North Side
Feeder Bus
Butler
South Side
Second Avenue

From the above it might be deduced that a Special is needed to go from
Forbes-5th-Liberty-Penn to Second Avenue, even though both of them are
in the East.

The 60-96-77/54 were three local / crosstown lines that never went
downtown - how Free Transfer privileges vs Special worked for these
3-lines is unknown to me.

Instead of stamped with either Inbound Or Outbound there was a special
transfer stamped OUTER ZONES and had the following:

First Column:

Homestead E.Pgh 55
East Pgh. 64
Mifflin 65
Oakmont Blackridge
Emergency

Second Column:

68 Homestead McKeesport
Swisshelm Park
56 McKeesport
87 Ardmore
67 Braddock

This particular transfer, and a few others, are reported from The Last
Car on route 55 -- 1444, 04-July-1964 and I presume that I got these
courtesy of list member John C. Swindler!
