Apologies, Matt! I get 150 to 200 emails daily and in speed reading I
didn't notice you limited your observation to 1700s in Half n' Half.
.
John's listing above is gleaned [Mostly] from available photographs and
John has Many he has taken personally as well as purchased over the
years, but this is not necessarily an inclusive listing. PRMA would
Often post listings of available cars in their newsletters going into
the ({[pat]}) era as the PCCs were disappearing fast and PRMA Often
listed paint styles for each vehicle -- Not A Small Undertaking.
.
I have the July-1966 issue of PRMA Trolley Fare in front of me (first
one I pulled from the archives AND one containing the above mentioned
listing!!) As Of 19660615, the six 17s listed above are the only ones
still in the *--Simplified--* (as PRMA calls the Half n' Half) but it is
*--Possible--* that some of those already painted in ({[pat]}) colors
had been in the Simplified as well.
.
As of 19660615 there were 48 PCCs in the Simplified scheme with the
lowest number being 1419 (1400 is the lowest car on the roster!)
.
And as of this date Only 15 cars are in ({[pat]}) colors::
1451 1488 1496 1548 1556
1605 1607 1623 1635 1661
1678 1702 1762 1767 1797.
.
Thus, ALL other PCCs are still in some form of PRCo paint! This issue
also lists a New Style Red Front as well as Original Red Front -- how
the latter can be determined I do Not know -- and at this moment I don't
know what New Style Red Front means!
.
Original Red Front cars are only 1408 and 1602!!
.
There is also a listing for Partial Simplified (roof only) which
includes cars 1406 1436 1518 1527 1547 1555 1602 1653 1685 1693 1696.
One Car -- 1602 -- pulls double duty as Original Red Front with Upper
Body Only as Partial Simplified but 1653 listed here is Not listed in
the V front paint scheme even though we saw it was at one time --
http://lists.dementia.org/files/pittsburgh-railways/1653-58GrantBldg022764.JPG
-- but 1653 IS listed as having New Style Red Front so I assume that as
of 19660615 that the V is gone!!!
.
Two cars are listed as having Center-Number White Front -- 1474 1748!
.
There were still 25 cars that had the Rear Green and White Safety Signs!!
.
There is a listing for White Front Cars which I assume to be the
Hourglass as 17s were delivered.
.
There was a total of 256__Active cars,
101 at Craft and
155 at Tunnel.
There were 27 cars out of service or in process of being
scrapped for a total of 283 PCCs on the property.
.
PCCs 1538 and 1688 were never used by ({[pat]}), were extensively
stripped at Homewood, stored dead at Craft.
