Not really. He simply was showing slides and pointed out that there
was an UMTA funded job to repaint the cars in the orange, red and
white scheme, which was finished. Then Washington called and said
were sending someone out to watch a car being painted, so paint
one. Jeff showed a picture of the car that was pulled out of a
scrap line and painted to satisfy the inspector. That is about all
I remember of the story.
It was the time of the ERA convention about 1980. Several of us
were up to his home in Sausalito. Howard White was there; you can't
ask him because he's dead now. Leo Ross was there; Leo is now in a
nursing home. I think Russ Jackson might have been there. I've
met Jeff Moreau a couple of times. When I first met him, he was a
maintainer on PCCs out of Geneva.
Now I figured out who his sister was. I had to ask my wife.
Stefanie Powers. She played opposite Robert Wagner on a mystery
show on the boob tube. There is a picture of the two of them as
kids in the Steinheimer - Sims book, Growing Up With Trains, A
Southern California Album, page 5, at the front of a Pacific Electric
locomotive. After his divorce, I think he moved to Sacramento and I
lost touch. I think Jeff's dad was very much a railfan also; came
from New York area if memory data bank works.
Controversial? I guess we all are in one way or another.
