Ontario?  People routinely use transit here to go to work.  GO Transit and TTC especially.  Even the small city of 40,000 I live in has 8 bus routes with 30 minute service Mon-Fri.  First bus 5 AM.  Last bus 10 PM.  There's only one reason for a 5 AM bus. Work.

It's hard to sit here in these suburbs ... perhaps just as hard as to 
be in Ontario, California, or Palatine, Illinois, and think of using 
a bus to go to work.

And yet 50 years ago, I did it routinely.
