Good question Rich.   My instincts tell me that the parking lot  
people are defending nothing.   That the overwhelming majority of the  
people using transit to come to an airport are support staff, retail  
clerks, and airline employees and the airport would no doubt have to  
provide parking spaces free for them.   It's the railfans and serious  
travelers ... the Fred Schneiders, the Phil Craigs, the Derrick  
Brashears, the Rick Steves who would understand how to use transit in  
conjunction with a plane and they probably account for less than 1  
percent of the air tickets sold.   Just a guess.
