In Cincinnati the right hand wire was positive and the left hand wire
negative. The PCCs run the suburban sections with the left hand
pole down. As for the ZOO loop, I assume the left hand or center
(negative wire) was shared by both directions while the positive (outer
wires) were for each direction separate. That's also why the center
wire does not have section insulator while the outer wires do have.

Boris -- Ain't no insulators in Any Wires in this URL::

Those items in the outer wires just behind 1166 are simple trolley
collector contactors like Pittsburgh used for Nachods -- they are not
insulators. These contactors just pass the current from the wire
to contactor and to whatever is connected to that contactor. This
gives more credence to my 'assumption' that these are dedicated
contactors to set the turnout track for 49 - right wire (left from our
viewpoint) to go into the loop and the left wire (our right) sets
the turnout for the 78 to go straight through.

I went to the website to get this message which never arrived
here. I have since sent in a drawing and map of this location
which has Not shown up here nor has it shown up at the website.

VERY___Interesting your comments about polarity and the PCC -- the
Muni older Flyer TCs were simple beasts but the electronic ETI's are
more PCC-esque and I wonder about polarity reverse in relationship to
them. We do still have some overhead like that here in SF; we
just had a discussion about same on the SFMuniHistory list!!!
.
Now, Lettuce see if this goes through -- And When -- If-Ever!!!
