Still has the Golden Glow as well but agree that the car has several
years under its belt(rail!) Cars were delivered without the tape over
the front end of the fan cowling (see following URL) but I have not
researched photos to know exactly when it was applied but assume it was
1950 or 1951.

Comparing these two photos reveals that 1775 has lost much of its
original glory and beauty and looks more like it could have been a photo
from 1960 except for the lf-cars --- the 17s were Extremely Handsome
Cars when they were new. Type of camera used can also give this effect
blandness --- those with fixed focal length are most culpable!
.
Car 1700 itself was 'possibly' the first 17-Interurban to receive a
sealed beam headlight while still in service to Washington ---
'possibly' as a result of an accident. Otherwise the interurbans seemed
to be the last cars converted to sealed beam as they really didn't need
the headlight much with the overhead light! fws night photo of ladder
tracks 1-10 in SHY shows an interurban over the pits with Golden Glow,
this in the mid to latter 1950s!
