I have a great book on the development of the interstate highway system and 
some of the things promised to Ike that the planners then went ahead and 
changed.

For example, he wanted none of the interstates to bisect our cities.

I will give you the name of the book, if there is an interest when I get 
back home this weekend.  The title slips my mind at the moment.
