Hi Jim
It's trying to remember back - some 40+ years. There were a couple
occasions that the relief was made on the bypass track around the
administration building. Maybe because it was sooooo rare, it is remembered
a bit better. But there was a problem both times - we sat there for awhile.
Was it involved with a car swap?? Was it a "so where is my relief"
question?? Or did the motormen have to make a "pit" stop and it wasn't a
relief after all?? It happened, but was too young to pay any attention to
the reason. Around 8th or 9th grade.
As for Second Ave. routes, a scheduled relief could have been made on their
downtown loops, and perhaps that is what happed weekdays. I'm struggling to
recall what happened on some Sundays. I remember being on a Second Ave. car
starting it's run at Tunnel. But was this a "pull-out" to add a car to the
service, or was this the way a relief was handled on Sundays??? It would
have been around mid-day on Sunday. Too many seasons ago. But the operator
was Walther, but any other details are lost in mist of time.
Good to hear from you again.
John
