I'm told that one of the brakes was hanging up, so the actuator had been
released. I discussed the effect of operation this way with the shop folks
and was assured that there would be no problem. Tony recalled how cars were
operated fron Charleroi to Homewood - in regular service - in this
condition, so we just ran it that day!

Why did you ride 1711 with a released actuator?

Ok , here they are. This will be lengthy and some of the photos are things
many of you have seen before so you should be able to tell from my
description which will follow. I'm separating this into 3 e-mails. The
first(this one) will be our initial day at the museum. The second will be of
the day 2 field trip. The third will be of the exploring I did on my own. I
have no photos of the day 1 field trip as we were on a bus and we did not
have anywhere to stop so I was unable to take photos.
Now I want to explain something ahead of time about our initial gathering
at PTM. As we were getting the cars out of the barn I noticed a gentleman
hanging around taking photos. I initially thought he was with Derrick as he
was standing next to him when I first saw him. He was on a trip east to see
Strasburg, etc. when he picked up a PTM flyer. On his way back home to
Illinois, he decided to check out PTM. Well, the museum is closed on
Thursday so his bad luck. But just as quickly his luck changed as we were
having our get together this day. Ed invited him along. He paid his fees
along with the rest of us and he even got to operate the cars. I don't
remember his last name but his first name was Kevin. After a wonderful day,
he decided to become a member of PTM. Ed told me that it pays to be nice to
people and this was certainly the case here. Kevin is a member of IRM and is
now a member of PTM. Fantastic! Kevin did not accompany us on our field
trips but I'm sure he was es!
tatic about what happened and how he was treated and hopefully spreads the
word about PTM. Now onto the photos. 32 of them in this lengthy part 1. I
hope this doesn't overload the server. lol
