There was no mention of the "derail" in the 1973 PATransit Trolley Operators Manual. In an informational memo put out for operators in 1978 it is stated that only a "Safety Stop" must be made prior to proceeding into the tunnel. This memo is quite interesting inasmuch as it contains track maps of SHJct after the rebuilding and signal locations, safety requirements, etc.
