It has been claimed that during October, 1958, Pittsburgh Railways used
transfers dated "1957" because they weren't used a year earlier due to
the trolley strike.
.
Pittsburgh Railways announced that it was still losing money and
passengers despite the fare increase on Thursday, June 20, 1957. Since
then, losses totaled $47,176. Passengers declined from 76,557,554 in
the first 9 months of 1957 to 62,860,493 in the first 9 months of
1958. For the 12 months ending Tuesday, September 30, 1958, there was
a net loss of $690,061 which; however, included the strike period.
