1958/1959 was the "Death" door bell for the Mon Valley and most of all for
Donora and Monessen,
as a family we had to relocate to North Hills Pittsburgh and my dad was
given employment at the
USS Saxonburg facility but that only lasted a short while, soon after that
the USS shut down completely the Donora works and 3500 men and women lost
their jobs.
Sad days and basically was the beginning of the end for the "leave it to
Beaver" days in the
Pittsburgh area as other plants thru the next few years closed
