As you know, Fred, we have never sampled a guided tour, other than a 3-4 hour bus ride in Bath and a couple Carribean Islands.  One was to that national park in Purto Rico, and well the cost.  Will also add St. John, where the local transit agency tour is half the Gray Coach, for those that don't mind a GM Classic transit bus (new look from 90s).  Fred pulled a similar stunt on his Alaska tour, when he opted for the local bus ride to a glacier.

We also took a local transit bus to HELL.  It's located Cayman Islands.  But guess that is another topic.

And yes, the youtube videos can be addictive.  Two Billings songs, Edinburgh Military Festival clip, and 1938 stock on Northern line have been added to favorites - at least until the wife finds them.  (:>)

Gas will fluctuate.  No reason to panic.  And in the end, it is what it is.  But after 'needling' you for several months, at least your again considering European travel.
