Jerry and anyone else who wants to read this.....
Sometime ago someone on this list mentioned how much ExxonMobile made
last year. I suspected it was in chemicals and some lines other
than gasoline sales and here, on line, after tonight's newspaper was
printed is the answer. Exxon is getting out of the retail gasoline
business because they can't make money in such a volatile market.
And SUNOCO lost money in the first quarter of 2008.
Exxon getting out of retail gas business
Published June 12, 2008, 4:45 PM EST
HOUSTON (AP) - Exxon Mobil is getting out of the retail gasoline
business, a market where profits have gotten tougher because of high
crude oil prices.
The world's largest publicly traded oil company said Thursday it will
sell its 820-company owned stations and another 1,400 outlets
operated by dealers to gasoline...
I found that item while looking for an e-version of an item by Guy
Caruso of the Federal Energy Department claiming that gas prices will
not rise significantly. Read it and then remember that he is
employed by Bush and has a record of telling us what the
administration wants us to believe.

I think I am more inclined to believe there is a problem when a
multinational company wants to deep-six 2,000 retail outlets than
when the government says everything is A-OK.
