A few times, I've heard or read references to mine waste as "slag".
Always found the usage jarring. Anyway, might the mine have sold rock
removed from the mine to PRC for use as ballast or fill rather than
take up space on their dump? Or might PRC, for a small fee, have
hauled away waste rock (actually using it as above).
