The 830s were purchased by West Penn Railways (from West Penn Securities
Department, Inc.) in 1944. George Tucker's story was that the men at the
shop "hid" 832 (just how they could do that when it was out on South
Connellsville regularly I'm not sure) so it didn't appear on the scrap
inventory. Allegedly this was done so PERC could buy it. I wasn't there
and can't attest to the story's authenticity.

Wasn't it a leased car, which is how it escaped the West Penn scrap list?
