Cecil Alley is now Cecil Way and is the extension of Fifth Avenue from Penn
to Ft. Duquesne Blvd. It is a half-block east of Stanwix and never became
Stanwix. The original Stanwix ran from Liberty to the Allegheny River. Its
name was extended over the former Ferry Street to the Monongahela River.

Subject: [PRCo] One way streets
As an example of how early motor vehicle traffic was starting to be a burden
in Pittsburgh ...
Penn Avenue became one-way west (from Ferry to 32nd) and Liberty one-
way east (from Grant to 32nd) ..... way back in 1918. That is when
routes 86, 87, 88, 94 and 95 became inbound on Penn and outbound on
Liberty. Today we call Ferry Stanwix south of Liberty. North of
Liberty Cecil Alley became Stanwix.
That fits in very well with my earlier suggestion that the city probably
wanted cars off the streets and onto loops instead of changing end in the
middle of streets.
I still have not found when Wood and Smithfield became one-way streets, or
perhaps I just have not been sufficiently observant.
