I wish I had a letter that was floating around my darkroom for
years. It came from Norman Vutz, who was then the museum director
at PTM (or PERC in those days). He enclosed a picture of a sweeper
just after it came out of Craft Avenue and turned onto 5th Avenue or
Forbes Avenue from Craft or Halket. It was throwing snow and
burying the parked automobile with vengeance.
I remember Norm writing that the picture "was hardly indicative of
the system wide performance." I remember he concluded by saying
that overall the Railways Company's battle with its final snow storm
in 1964 reminded him of a "Three Stooges Comedy" because nearly every
piece of equipment burnt out or failed.
