Somewhere in the second PCC book I mentioned that certain of the GE  
1600s were rebuilt with higher brake pressure for service on route 21  
Fineview.   That tidbit came from Headlights magazine at a time when  
the magazine's editor was John Baxter who was an instructor for  
Pittsburgh Railways.    It was probably reasonably authentic.   The  
5500s running on Fineview were the last single-end low-floor cars in  
the city in base service; the rebuilt 1600s replaced them.   I do not  
remember the date.   I do not have a copy of the book handy ...  
probably about 1952.
