Interesting is the fact that while SEPTA is removing all the crossing gates
on the 101 line, the rail line between Akron and Cleveland is getting new
gates installed at EVERY crossing between downtown Akron and Steelyard
Commons near downtown Cleveland. The money for this project, which got
underway last week, is being provided through Economic Stimulus Package
money. Just in one week, new rail, concrete ties and signal equipment boxes
(large ones), have been placed all along the rail right of way. A company
called "Railworks" has the contract. I suppose SEPTA could use some of that
same money to remove their crossing gates.
