Remember that the Manchester Bridge also had a very short life too.   It too was in the way of I-279 and Point State Park.

You want old bridges, look up the ages of some of the early Roebling designed suspension bridges that are still carrying traffic:  Brooklyn Bridge, the one in Wheeling, and the antique from Cincinnati to Covington.   But ny favorites for truly old bridges are not in the USA because we didn't even exist then.   Google the Ponte Veccio (Old Bridge) in Florence (Firenze), Italy or the Roman aquaduct over the Arkes River north of Nimesm France that us still standing and nearly 2000 years old.

That's great, John.  I'll tell you - that bridge really did have a short life in comparison to so many other Pgh bridges - even the one that took over its traffic, Fort Pitt Bridge, now 50 years old.
Today a 2nd article (if you blinked, you missed it) appeared in the Post Gazette about a 2nd Point Bridge date stone.   Attached.

I never knew the Point Bridge was designed by one of my cousins, although the Roush family was very distant.  I took some pictures of the bridge in May 1970 from Point Park.  It was a nice area to stroll between classes at Point Park College.
