You might look into the period when they converted from two-man to one-man (1920-1937) and the integration of Pittsburgh Motor Coach Co. into Pittsburgh Railways Co. (did that happen with the 1948-1949 reorganization?).
I'll give you a hint. The first on one-man conversion was February 16, 1920 on route 38-A. It didn't last because the "trainmen" refused to pick the one-man cars. By 1923 when routes 50, 52 and North Washington became one-man, the company wasn't taking any guff from the union. The first heavy route to go fully one-man was 87 Ardmore in 1924. At that time Ardmore did not run downtown, it only ran outward from Wilkinsburg and connected with 88 Ardmore. Still, it carried heavy rush hour loads to the Westinghouse and Air Brake plants.
