  Probably once the trainman job included the driving of buses. 1930s??? Once buses and trolleys were under the same corporate umbrella.  Early bus operations in many cities operated under a separate franchise.  The street railways were afraid of loosing favorable franchise terms, but on the other hand they had to act or face long term competition.

  While at PTM yesterday, the discussion turned to when the designation changed from Trainman to Operator on Pittsburgh Railways.  Any ideas?
