I have been through the Track Sketch index in the library and found nothing
that I could absolutely identify as supporting this crossover. It looks
well-worn, like it has been in place a long time. I agree with Bob on the
era but since low-floor cars came out of service in 1954 would make it
pre-1954. I found one entry involving work on the Knoxville track in 1952,
renewing special work within Tunnel Yard, but the location was up the hill.
Is there a possibility that the inbound track had been closed and this was
the way to get 44, 47 and 48 cars into the tunnel once they came down the
outbound side above the Junction? There is no way that this is a '70s
photograph.
Note to Bob: On your SHJ timeline, the 19?? entry: This sketch indicates
that the track to the stone crusher was built in 1911. They even accounted
for the added mileage to the system. The "Do Not Consider" notation had to
do with the 1938 bankruptcy, and likely meant that the track was no longer
there at that time.

The aforementioned mentioned photo was taken during a construction period,
but not in 1975. Ignore everything else and look at the Administration
building roof overhang. Notice that the IS an overhang. That dates the
photo to pre-1956 - http://www.dietrichsfam.com/shj/bb002.htm.
You may find a few details by looking through this page -

in there let me know.

Like I said, it could be either. The photo does have some features relating
to the construction period.
