One of the things I've wanted to do for a while was develop software
where you could put the pic on a map, zoom on pics, and show all the old
routes on teh map and how they changed over time. So, basically
everything you said, so, if you need any help I have a bit of time to
spare on weekends.
I've also wanted to do something similar for newspaper clippings.  Where
you could zoom in on sections like google books and search the OCRed
text and then search it &c.
