Fred, 



I never saw a tripod in the mail bag.  Afterall, the primary purpose of the bag was to contain mail.  :-) 



However, I did see him taking movies as well as still photos.

Did he have a tripod too?   That would be in order to take eight identical pictures so he could sell the other seven negatives.
