I would not call it "erring" although to each their own. Yes, caution
enters into it, but so does annoyance that one would have to perform this
extra step, even if it were not something about which to be worried, when
the sought after data can be included (and was by the sender) in the email.
I have my views, Derrick has his, but at the end of the day he is the keeper
of the list, so his views prevail. I accept that, even if the results don't
please me at all times. I do value the list, so put up with its
idiosyncrasies.
