For some, 15 minutes was a lot of time to get to the gate. In the1970's I sometimes traveled with a co-worker who more than once arrived at the gate about a minute before the aircraft door was closed.
We were in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago, and with the 70mph speed limit I figur ed that driving the 500 miles would take about an hour longer than total time taking the plane . Plus the car was more comfortable than coach and I di dn't have to pay at least $100 to check our bags, and then pay for a rental car in Pittsburgh.

Airlines? I can remember when you could dash up to the gate with 15
> minutes to spare, get on the plane and go ….
Me too. July 2001. 28x was late, I got to the airport at 8:06am and was not
the last person seated on my 8:15 departure, which left on time.
