[PRCo] Glenwood Bridge - anyone remember the transition stage, between old and new?

Most nights, I take 2nd Avenue home.  As approach the Glenwood Bridge, I see to the right, the old roadway that appears to have led underneath the current Glenwood Bridge, to the old bridge.   My visual perception of the underpass to the old bridge seems to indicate that there was not enough room for trailer trucks, buses or streetcars to pass under the new to reach the old.  But, I've never parked and gotten out my car to really examine this.

Anyone remember how this was managed?   Old articles indicate that the old bridge was still in use up to the day before the new bridge opened.
